A Few Words About Me
Sam grew up in a family of nine, with one working and one disabled parent, food was often in short supply and fresh produce was way outside the meager budget. It is early in her life that she realized her purpose was to grow fresh produce and to teach other to do the same. During her college career at the University of Hilo, she founded the Let’s Grow Hilo program, an educational beautification project that specifically targeted teaching community members and school groups how to utilize ornamental space to grow fresh and nutritious produce. After graduation and kick starting Let’s Grow Hilo, Sam realized the importance of not only teaching people how to grow these gardens, but to expand on this idea and teach them to use what they grow. In 2015 she co-founded Hawaii Green Earth, an educational farm and private chef service, that focuses on utilizing what is produced on the farm. Sam mostly focuses on vegan and vegetarian dishes that highlight the vegetables themselves. Sam believes food is our medicine and vegetables grown and prepared with intention and aloha, is the best medicine of all.
