About The Program
Join Alexander Goff and Annick Dauphinais and special guest speakers for a 14-day immersive permaculture design theory and applied research experience. This course will provide students with fundamental hands on understanding of permaculture and how the principals of permaculture can be applied to your home, farm, garden business and daily life. Our program is designed to inspire you and help facilitate your journey into permaculture design and a more wholesome understanding of the systemic nature of all living systems. Big Island Farms Permaculture Design Course (BIF PDC) provides an in depth view on how to use techniques and methodologies to apply regenerative design principles to your daily life, business, community and ecosystems.
In the increasingly interconnected dynamic world that we live in today the investigation and research into design and implementing creative solutions to manage the problems we face on earth are more significant and timely then at any time in our recent history. This course is intended to engage the student in a dialogue focused on solutions that, through proper application, will create effective and sustainable permaculture communities. Affecting proper land stewardship and agricultural systems with a more respectful focused approach to small and large-scale development on a local, regional and global platforms are at the core of the programs educational goals.
This two-week course will cover the basics of designing and building regenerative systems. Building with local resources, how to design agricultural systems which retain vital nutrients and energy and to how to manage the process of building a meaningful life/existence where you are not just sustaining your surroundings but positive input into your immediate surrounding ecosystem be it big city or rural farm. Meaningful time will be spent in our outdoor classroom examining the strategies used to create these systems and also looking at actual models of them in work on our beautiful 60-acre organic farm. The course will provide a mental tool kit and outline how to dive deeper into any of the subjects covered. The course will be concluded by you spending time creating and presenting a design project based off of what you have learned and what your goals and passions may be.
Learning topics include:
Regenerative food production systems
Utilizing space to provide fresh and healthy food for your family while earning income and regenerating your local ecosystem
Designs for both modern construction and unique and innovative designs for building in flow with your ecosystem to reduce energy and promote a healthy ecosystem
Basic introduction to medicinal plants in between your PDC classes
About The Venue
This course is offered at Big Island Farms located on the Hamakua Coast of Big Island Hawaii. BIF hosts
many varieties of gardens. Currently, we have community market gardens, medicinal gardens, arid climate
gardens, and permaculture food forests amongst others under cultivation. Some of the plants you might find
in our gardens include: Taro, Papaya, Banana, Cassava, Turmeric, Pineapple, Passion Fruit, Dragon Fruit,
Plantains, Ginger, Gooseberry, Squash, Pigeon Pea, Lemons, Limes, Sour sop, Eggplant, Hawaiian Chili
Pepper, Jalepenos, Bell Peppers, Custard Apple, Sapote, Neem, Lychee, Mangosteen, Starfruit, Surinam
Cherry, Bilimbi, Rambutan, Rollinia, Java Plum, Tropical Pumpkin, Jabuticaba, Ti, Hibiscus, a wide variety
of ornamental and building quality Bamboos, and so much more! Big Island Farms host internships and also

About The Teachers
Alexander Goff is a certified permaculture teacher; he completed his teacher-training course in Australia and New Zealand. Alexander is also the co-founder of Big Island Farms Internships.
Annick Dauphinais is a certified herbalist and founder of World Sacred Gardens and Vrindavan Farms based
on permaculture design. She is also the Executive Director of Big Island Farms and Big Island Farms
Internship. Annick leads group retreats all over the world with her travel agency Terra Voyage LLC.
