At Big Island Farms Internships, we’re offering an exciting opportunity for students to gain degree related experience and receive crucial internship credits. Our internship program runs during the summer semester on the Big Island Farms property. It’s an opportunity for students to challenge themselves, learn new practices and techniques, and become an integral part of our farm experience in Hawaii. If accepted to our program, each student will spend four weeks on our organic permaculture farm. Hard work is expected, but in return students will build many new connections, gain valuable hands-on experience, and have a chance to reconnect to the land and the source of the foods we consume; not to mention the travel and exploration of the Hawaii Island Archipelago on weekends and during your mid-term break.
Why Big Island Farms Internships
Through hands-on agricultural based programs, we offer opportunities for young adults to become stewards of the land and build upon their knowledge, spirit, and passions.
An immersive learning environment built on the pillars of humbly serving the land, supporting the local community, and functioning with respect to the Hawai’ian culture, values, and ecological systems.

What interns have said about us
I booked a tour last week for me and my 8 year old son, and it was absolutely fantastic. Jon’s passion, knowledge, and over all wonderful personality made it so fun and educational. My typically very shy little boy even felt comfortable enough to ask lots of questions. We loved the one on one private attention that we were able to experience.
We are now back home in Arizona longing for more island time as you can imagine. Our family talked quite a bit about the tour, and are eager to get started on our own garden again (even though I have a black thumb, I really want to learn more, and try again & again until I can get it right). I feel after learning so much from Jon that it is so important to live as sustainable as possible in the middle of the city where we live.
Thank you again so so much!
I learnt so much and had the best time! I am so happy to have met all the amazing people who are part of the Big Island Farms community, to share myself in this community and for the opportunity to experience the beauty of Hawaii, its sacred landscapes and its culture. I already look forward in excitement to hopefully coming back one day!
My time as an intern at Big Island Farms can be summed up by an abundance of compassion, inspiration, and thrill. No one greater than another, and no one absent in any moment throughout my whole experience.
